Sarakaitis' "Each One Teach One: An investment in Children Yielding High Returns" project is an outreach program that trains parents and community members to be reading tutors for at-risk students. By involving the community, the program gives the students and their families the opportunity to receive ongoing education and support in literacy development as well as meets their educational and emotional needs. Older students, in turn, mentor younger students, reinforcing the reading skills they acquire from the program. Weekly journal correspondence among students, mentors, and parents, newsletters, and celebrations also help connect the school, community, and home.
