Dawn Konow

Konow’s innovative teaching idea, “Collaborative Study of Biomes,” is focused on a study of the major biomes that make up our biosphere, conducted by high school students, and then sharing that learning experience with neighboring grammar schools. This interactive project will challenge the high school students to consolidate information regarding flora, fauna, climate and terrain in an easy-to-understand format that is engaging. The high school students will prepare travel brochures, travel commercials and a marketing strategy that will entice the fourth-grade students to want to travel to their biome destination. In the process, both groups will gain insight and understanding of the various biomes, both terrestrial and aquatic that exist on Earth. Konow believes this project will strengthen knowledge and appreciation for the diversity of life throughout the world, while fostering a nurturing, collaborative and fun learning environment for grammar school and high school students.
