"Construction Students Volunteer in the Community" is the winning project created by Miller for 11th and 12th -grade students in his construction course. The project is designed to impact not only students at the school but also the communities of Lawton and Bronson. At a time when people may not be able to afford to hire a contractor to repair certain parts of their homes, students participating in the project will go out and do the work for them as a service to the community. During the first year of the program, the students completed a variety of jobs including shingling a roof, pouring concrete for a sidewalk, repairing drywall, and replacing doors and windows. Due to the high demand, not all of the work was completed in the first year but will resume this school year. The goal of the program according to Miller is to give back to the community, give students real-life and hands-on experiences in the construction trade, and help them learn lifelong lessons associated with being a homeowner. Miller lives in Lawton.
