Edelman’s innovative teaching idea, “Graduate with Real $kills,” will provide students with comprehensive, interactive financial literacy training by participating in ‘The Budget Challenge.’ The Challenge is an online personal finance simulation in which students make financial decisions such as how much to contribute to a 401k account; when to pay bills to avoid late fees without over drafting their balance; what exemptions and deductions to claim when filing a tax return; and how to invest money responsibly. In academia, there is a lot of conversation around the 4Rs of learning: making sure it is Real, Relevant, Rigorous and Relationship-oriented. Edelman believes ‘The Budget Challenge’ lifts these concepts from buzz words into reality.
