Burgess’ innovative teaching idea, “Planetarium Technology Upgrade,” is designed to update the technology platform in the school’s planetarium. Between 12,000 to 15,000 people, including students in grades K-12, go through Mankato East High School’s planetarium each year where students run many of the available shows. The Voya Unsung Heroes grant will help the school upgrade the 15-year-old presentation equipment, which will enable the school to develop new student-led programming for the planetarium.
