Peters’ innovative teaching program, “Tiny House: Scale Model,” includes students planning, designing, and creating a scale model tiny house. Students will plan their tiny house with an assigned character in mind. They will create a blueprint on paper to determine the size and scale of their home. They will then transfer their measurements to digital design using a computer program to determine design features. Finally, they will construct a 3D scale model home. Students will earn money along the way and budget to purchase materials to build their home. In the end, students will present their homes in an open house format. Peters believes students will gain a better understanding of measurement, proportions, scale, budgeting, problem-solving, critical thinking, construction and technology through her hands-on, innovative program.
