Livingstone's "Reading Rocks!" program promotes reading among English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) students, providing books for families with no tradition of literacy in the home. As part of the program, ESL students select picture books and read them at home to at least two younger children. This not only lets students practice their reading skills, but also improves the skills of younger children in the home. As an additional program benefit, vouchers to purchase discount books are awarded to participating families in an effort to encourage the students' parents to strengthen their own English skills, while helping their children to read.
