Talbot's "Literature Meets Visual Literacy" project challenges students to access higher-level critical thinking skills that require coordination between right-brain global thinking and more linear left-brain reasoning. Students write and illustrate poems, with attention to symbolic representation; using a timeline, they illustrate and share events from their lives; they collect and analyze quotations related to particular themes. In this way, students develop their reasoning abilities by exploring modes of creative and critical thinking.
