Charlene Connors

Connors' "Project C.A.R.E." (Children and Adults Reading Every Day) is based on the knowledge that early literacy is best accomplished with a partnership between school and home. The project provides books to be used at school in daily guided reading instruction in the first, second, and third grades. Since many of the children are from low-income homes where books are scarce, books are also supplied for students to read at home with family members. Students grow more quickly in reading skill and fluency, and teachers and families have the opportunity to work together in ensuring student achievement.
