Midgett’s innovative teaching idea, “OFASA STEM Enhancement,” will help students understand how machines can perform tasks generally attributed to humans and how robotics can make our lives easier. Learning and implementing concepts like hydraulics, gear mechanism and electronics, the students’ creations will compete with others on the local, state and national level. The objective is to interest students in STEM-related (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) disciplines such as advanced manufacturing, robotics engineering, 2D/3D design, and aeronautics. Students will also learn about such ‘soft skills’ as collaboration that will further their academic and professional advancement.
