Reading’s innovative teaching idea, “Picture This: Photography,” teaches high school students how to utilize different types of cameras, lenses and other photography equipment to cover events and capture school memories for the Mountain View High School yearbook. In the class, students are able to learn photojournalism techniques, including subject composition, lighting and how to use different camera settings. Aspiring photojournalists will also learn about photo organization and management, how to edit using Photoshop and create layouts. Local newspaper photographers will also visit the class and mentor students by sharing their professional experience. The Voya Unsung Heroes grant will be used to purchase additional photography equipment that will enable the class to produce a competition-level yearbook.
