The Judge Charles J. Vallone School

"Probing for Our Future," the unique winning program by D'Angelo-Schiavi, is designed to engage elementary school students in hands-on, scientific learning that is part of a world-wide initiative to document and understand climate change. Students at The Judge Charles J. Vallone School will be able to use special probes and equipment to gather three important samples for the Global Study Initiative: air temperature, soil and water. They will also gather samples of soil, rock, water and temperature readings around the school as well as other locations in the region. The information the students obtain will be digitally transmitted to climatologist and geologists around the world and input into a data bank in which future measures to determine the effect of climate change will be studied. Through this hands-on work, students will gain a greater understanding of ecological, atmospheric and climate change as well as develop analytical, problem-solving and technology skills. The students will understand the interconnectedness and interdependency of the world by participating in the Global Study. D'Angelo-Schiavi lives in Cortlandt Manor.
