Candace Watkins

Watkins' "The Sister 'Hood'" project is an organization of girls and women that builds self-esteem through service to others. Encompassing female students, teachers, and student relatives, The Sister "Hood" promotes the academic success of its members through self-help seminars, guest speakers, a participatory journal for which all members write, talent shows, computer-literacy classes, after-school and Saturday tutorials, and community service. Through the program girls achieve a greater sense of self-worth and accomplishment, while forming a stronger bond with their families and teachers.
