New Castle, PA
Mohawk Area High School

Schirmer’s innovative teaching idea, “Small Gas Engine Conversion,” is designed to teach students how to convert a small gasoline engine into a propane/natural gas-burning engine.. The conversion equipment will be purchased and used to study the difference between conventional small engine operation and natural gas conversion. More and more cars in the community are being powered by compressed natural gas (CNG). There are CNG refueling stations available now. It will be a benefit to the 60 students to be on the cutting-edge of learning about what could be the future of fuels. Because natural gas is a large industry within the district, students who graduate with this deeper knowledge may have a competitive advantage in their advance studies and career options.
