Bruce Bjorklund

Bjorklund's program, "Empowering Through Environmental Science and Service Learning," is designed to allow high school students enrolled in Botany and Environmental Science to teach elementary and middle school students the basics of those sciences through the integration of outdoor and classroom activities. Through partnerships between the high school, area businesses and the City of Draper, the high school students use nearby wetlands as the outdoor classroom for younger students to gain hands-on experience in wetlands and environmental maintenance. By developing projects and teaching younger students, the high school students demonstrate what they have learned, enhance their learning process and gain confidence as they move on to higher education opportunities.
