Brittany Shouse and Andrea Peddicord
Shouse’s and Peddicord’s innovative teaching idea, “Vocation Station,” focuses on simulating real life job scenarios to allow students with disabilities to practice life skills needed for future employment. They currently have a coffee cart where students can practice social and vocational skills, including exchange of money, creation of an ordered good and teamwork. Shouse and Peddicord would like to update the space to create a modern work environment in order to train students in employable skills. Their team will consult with local businesses and tailor lessons as trainings for jobs that the students would potentially enter after high school. This program aims to create high quality, real world instruction for these students that engage in the lessons.
