Brent Richardson

Richardson's winning project, "Service Learning Through Community Action," takes the school into the community and brings the community into the school. The project involves creating a learning opportunity that will help a service organization within the community complete its mission. A student at Ogden High School will be chosen by a committee to serve as the project manager. That student will direct the activities of the project and select a team from the student population. The team will meet on a monthly basis and provide reports to the oversight committee. The reports will include a progress report, the utilization of resources, supplies and equipment needs and other concerns related to the project. Upon the completion of the project, each team member will submit an individual evaluation of the project to report as well as ideas for improvements. Richardson, who lives in Ogden, hopes that the project will teach students to "pay it forward" and help them gain an understanding of what their community means to them.
