Bonnie Brainard

Brainard's "Amigos in Peru" project lets students in advanced Spanish sections improve their skills by corresponding via e-mail with pen-pals in Peru. The Rolla High School students correspond with the Peruvian students throughout the school year, and their writing is regularly evaluated by the teacher on the basis of vocabulary and grammatical structure. By using the school's reference tools, online resources, and especially feedback from their South American peers, students get real-world reinforcement of their language acquisition and increase their knowledge and appreciation of Peruvian culture.
