Harman's "Science Students Working Like Real Scientists!" project is designed to teach seventh through 10th grade students about science through hands-on exposure to the methods and tools used by real-world scientists for investigating and solving crimes. The program incorporates the use of microscopes, chromatography, track/print impressions, fiber analysis, forensic techniques and data analysis to observe, analyze and solve real-life scientific problems. Students are able to connect their scientific learning to realistic scenarios, and gain a better understanding of how science is a valuable tool both in the field and in the laboratory. Along with learning various scientific techniques, students gain confidence in their own abilities and see how their skills could be applied professionally.
