Winters' "Mathtropolis: The Land of the Learned" project helps students master fundamental mathematics concepts to provide a solid problem-solving base for the future. The project brings math to life by having students envision a "world" called Mathtropolis, consisting of sites such as Arithmecity, Linear Land, Algebra Alley, Fraction Forest, and Probability Pond. Each stop along their "journey" offers students a real-world problem incorporating specific math concepts. Standard textbooks become merely one resource as students learn to apply mathematics in new and unconventional ways.
