Barbara McFall

McFall's "Kids Are Natural Engineers" project is based on the natural learning process for children, which according to research is that they learn better when solving a problem. The assignments are built around the Engineering/Technology design process, with the goal of incorporating more engineering problem-solving and original thinking opportunities into the curriculum. The students at The Phoenix School will define the problem, brainstorm solutions, build and test a model, make changes, and communicate a solution. The success of earlier projects sparked interest in expanding the existing program for all age levels at the school. Other children from neighboring communities will be invited to attend weekend, vacation and summer Engineering and Technology enrichment programs. McFall resides in Middleton.
