Marder's "Blues and Art" project gives busy students a chance to incorporate music and art into their academic schedules. This project is incorporated into their study of Africa and the history of slavery. Students learn to make their own African art, such as masks, jewelry and clay figures. Students also learn about the music that arose from slavery in the United States. The project ends with a visit to the House of Blues, where students listen to a live blues performance.
