Hughes’ innovative teaching idea, “Recycling for Better Tomorrow,” helps address the concern about recycling the abundance of trash in the community to meet the unique needs of the school. The project involves students collecting the plastic materials that are not being recycled in the school collection, community pickups, and trash runs to grind them up through specialized machines. The materials will then be melted into filament and used in 3D printers to show students the importance of recycling and real-world applications through recycling. Robotics Club students in the program will partner with other school clubs to reuse the materials and generate new ones. The goal is to give the students the knowledge to solve many of the problems facing the community and world today, help them provide a better future for generations to come, and be at the forefront of recycling programs in the country.
