April Phillips

Phillips’ innovative teaching idea, “21^st Century Learners,” focuses on implementing a technology-based reading intervention program. Students will have access to the program FastForward, which is completely computer based, has skill building exercises, is personalized for each learner, and provides automated real-time reporting. This will help close the gap between students who can and cannot read at grade level. This program will also assist students in learning necessary skills used to perform research and how to digitally display their findings. The Voya grant will be used in the purchase of eleven Chromebooks for the 5th grade students. Phillips aspires to help students not only to improve their reading skills but also to be successful in a digital era.
