The team’s innovative idea, “Improving Teen Driving Skills,” allows students from multiple STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) disciplines to collaborate on a school-wide study to provide beginner teenage drivers more hands-on driving time and experience. The project’s goal is to improve skills associated with driving to yield safer, more experienced drivers who are prepared for full licensure. Science and engineering students will collaborate with information technology students to design studies to improve driving skills of teenagers (ages 15-18). Studies will include improving hand-eye coordination, visual acuity, reaction time and decision-making processes/skills. These student-led studies and driving simulations will provide immediate, specific feedback that will help to improve their driving skills.
