Albuquerque, NM
Manzano Day School

Nash’s innovative teaching idea, “The Wonders of Glass,” is focused on fostering creativity in young children through the study of glass. The program will expose students in second through fifth grades to the versatility of this remarkable material, while improving their knowledge of science, technology and art. Nash says glass is everywhere — in eyeglasses, computers, windshields, fiber optics, artwork and more — yet we often take it for granted. Through this carefully designed course, a dedicated group of educators, scientists, artists and businesses in the community will help educate students about the properties of glass, how it is made and how it can be both useful and beautiful. Students will learn about the importance of using the scientific method, how to gather, analyze and apply information, and how to share their findings in multimedia presentations.  They also will learn new developments in glass art and architecture, getting a chance to use tools to safely cut, shape, mold and change glass.
