Amanda Baldwin

Baldwin’s innovative teaching idea, “Heartbeat Heroes: Sudden Cardiac Arrest Training,” focuses on teaching high school students how to respond in the event of a cardiac emergency at school or in the community. In a cardiac arrest emergency, every second counts, which is why early implementation of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is crucial for an individual’s survival. The Allegro Charter School of Music, where Baldwin is a certified nurse and instructor, recently received designation as a Heart Safe School by Project Adam. CPR training will reinforce this school culture of preparedness. Baldwin will collaborate with relevant stakeholders, including school administrators, teachers and health care professionals, to develop a comprehensive CPR training program tailored to the needs and resources of the school. Students will participate in interactive training sessions using a combination of instructional videos, hands-on demonstrations and practice drills with CPR manikins and AEDs. Students will receive personalized feedback and guidance to ensure proper technique and understanding of CPR procedures. Emphasis will be placed on building confidence, teamwork and effective communication skills during emergency response scenarios.
