Palmer’s innovative teaching idea, “Project Real World," enables students to hone their design skills by working with real-world community clients. This project is designed to teach students how to create graphics on computers as well as the representation and manipulation of pictorial data. The main objective is to introduce students to the basic elements and skills involved in the creation of computer graphics and how to apply those skills to enhance published content. Leveraging tablets, students’ drawings will be able to go directly on the computer without having to transfer via scanner or be drawn with a traditional mouse. The students will be able to create many types of design projects for the school and the community, including posters, t-shirts, school fanfare, among others. Ultimately, students will learn about the connection between computer graphics capacities, skills and professional opportunities.
