Ross Middle School
Gross' "Greenhouse and Garden Project" involves designing a garden to transform the campus area surrounding a student-managed greenhouse. The garden includes: an aquatic habitat, beds for annuals and perennials, an herb garden, a compost bin, bird feeders, and picnic tables. Responsible for all research, construction, and garden care, students develop math, geometry, and basic gardening skills as they work cooperatively. In addition to teaching self-discipline and commitment, the project provides an authentic laboratory in which students continually formulate and test life science hypotheses.
