Voya Financial Celebrates Fifth Anniversary of National Day of Service
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Today, Voya Financial, Inc. (NYSE:VOYA) is celebrating the fifth anniversary of its National Day of Service. This annual, enterprise-wide volunteer initiative is designed to maximize the company’s commitment to make a meaningful difference in the communities in which Voya employees live and work. Thousands of employees based in Voya’s nine major offices, and through its Virtually Orange remote workforce, will participate in more than 150 events supporting local nonprofits in towns and cities across the United States.
“Each year, I look forward to our National Day of Service, as our people come together across the country to bring the values and character of the Voya brand to life — in a very meaningful way that benefits our communities and society,” said Voya Financial Chairman and CEO Rodney O. Martin Jr.
Martin, along with members of Voya’s Executive Committee will join employees during volunteer events across the country. In New York City, Martin will pack food for Feeding Children Everywhere and host college students with disabilities from the U.S. Business Leadership Network (USBLN) Rising Leaders Mentoring Program for two “CEO Job Shadow Sessions.” Voya is a corporate partner with the USBLN, a national, non-profit, non-partisan business to business network that helps business drive performance by leveraging disability inclusion in the workplace, supply chain, and marketplace.
During its National Day of Service, Voya employees plan and organize volunteer activities geared toward the needs of their local communities. These include working with nonprofit partners to build homes, mentoring children and young adults in career advancement and financial literacy, revitalizing green spaces in their community and packaging meals for those less fortunate. Employees choose activities that align with their individual passions and interests to support a range of local and national nonprofit organizations, including Operation Gratitude, Junior Achievement, Habitat for Humanity and Special Olympics.
Voya’s first National Day of Service was held in 2014 and employee participation has increased steadily each year. In 2017, employees set a new record with 59 percent participation and 100 percent participation from Voya’s senior leadership team. In total, Voya employees volunteered approximately 49,000 hours in 2017 to support their local communities – more than 13,000 of these hours were contributed during National Day of Service.
Voya employees demonstrate a commitment to the community that goes beyond a one-day event. Employees consistently contribute time, talent and financial support to better their communities. Voya provides full-time employees with 40 hours of paid volunteer time each year and $5,000 in matching gifts for eligible nonprofits.
