Voya Named One of the 2018 World’s Most Ethical Companies® by the Ethisphere Institute for the Fifth Consecutive Year

Monday, February 12, 2018

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Voya Financial, Inc. (NYSE:VOYA), announced today that the company has been recognized by the Ethisphere Institute, a global leader in defining and advancing the standards of ethical business practices, as one of the 2018 World’s Most Ethical Companies for the fifth consecutive year.

The World’s Most Ethical Companies designation honors those companies who leverage ethical business practices as a sustainable business advantage that drives value for their stakeholders. This includes recognizing their role in society to influence and drive positive change, considering the impact of their actions on their employees, investors, customers and other key stakeholders, and using their values and culture to underpin the decisions that they make every day. Additionally, research has found that, when indexed, World’s Most Ethical Companies outperformed the U.S. Large Cap Index over five years by 10.72 percent and over three years by 4.88 percent.

“At Voya, we are proud to be recognized by the Ethisphere Institute as a leader in advancing ethical business practices – and for the value that distinction brings to all of our stakeholders,” said Rodney O. Martin, Jr., chairman and CEO, Voya Financial, Inc. “We know that the ethical corporate practices engrained in Voya’s culture are critical to the long-term success of our company. Increasingly, stakeholders – including our employees, customers and shareholders – are looking to share and advance relationships with companies whose values align with theirs.”

Voya is one of only five companies to be recognized in the financial services category. In total, 135 honorees were recognized, spanning 23 countries and 57 industries. Honorees had record levels of involvement with their stakeholders, their communities and beyond.

“The World’s Most Ethical Companies are recognized for their exemplary leadership in raising the standards of corporate behavior,” said Ethisphere’s CEO, Timothy Erblich. “They continually improve their culture, lead authentically, and commit to transparency, diversity and inclusion. I congratulate everyone at Voya for being recognized as one of the 2018 World's Most Ethical Companies."

Methodology & Scoring

The World's Most Ethical Companies assessment is based upon the Ethisphere Institute’s Ethics Quotient ® (EQ) framework, which offers a quantitative way to assess a company’s performance in an objective, consistent and standardized manner. The information collected provides a comprehensive sampling of definitive criteria of core competencies rather than all aspects of corporate governance, risk, sustainability, compliance and ethics.

Scores are generated in five key categories: ethics and compliance program (35 percent), corporate citizenship and responsibility (20 percent), culture of ethics (20 percent), governance (15 percent) and leadership, innovation and reputation (10 percent). All companies that participate in the assessment process receive their scores, providing them with valuable insights into how they stack up against leading organizations.
