Voya Financial Joins First Industry-Neutral Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index

Monday, January 22, 2018

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Voya Financial, Inc. (NYSE:VOYA) announced today that it is one of 104 companies to be included in the inaugural 2018 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index (GEI) in recognition of Voya’s strong commitment to gender equality. The index measures gender parity at companies across industries and around the globe using internal, company-provided statistics, employee policies, external community support and engagement, and gender-conscious product offerings.

Bloomberg GEI provides investors with information and data about companies' approaches to environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors to help them make better-informed decisions and help companies better understand their own progress toward gender equality.

“It is no secret that diverse and adaptive cultures tend to lead to better business performance,” said Rodney O. Martin, Jr., Voya Chairman and CEO and member of the U.S. 30% Club. “Voya’s inclusion in the Bloomberg GEI is further acknowledgement of our commitment to policies and practices that advance gender equality and achieve the associated positive impacts on our business and culture.”

Last year, Voya was recognized as one of 52 companies in a similar Bloomberg index measuring commitment to gender equality practices among financial services firms in 17 countries and regions around the world. The 2018 Bloomberg GEI expands globally to represent 24 countries and regions, and 104 companies across a variety of sectors, including communications, consumer staples, energy, financials, materials and technology.

"We commend Voya and the other companies included in the 2018 GEI for their efforts to create work environments that support gender equality across a diverse range of industries," said Peter T. Grauer, Chairman of Bloomberg and Founding Chairman of the U.S. 30% Club. "Their leadership sets an important example that will help all organizations innovate and navigate the growing demand for diverse and inclusive workplaces."

The Bloomberg GEI was created by Bloomberg in partnership with third-party experts, including Catalyst, Women’s World Banking, Working Mother Media, National Women’s Law Center and National Partnership for Women & Families. Voya and other companies included on this year’s index scored at or above a global threshold reflecting disclosure and the achievement or adoption of best-in-class statistics and policies. The index is not ranked and has no associated costs.
