Brannigan Thompson
Brannigan Thompson is executive vice president and chief human resources officer for Voya Financial, Inc. (NYSE: VOYA), a leading health, wealth and investment company.
In this role, Thompson is responsible for Human Resources, Corporate Responsibility and Voya Foundation and directs a strategy aimed at building the organization’s human capital by attracting, retaining and developing world-class employees and incenting them to deliver superior performance. He also serves on Voya Financial’s Executive Committee.
Thompson joined Voya predecessor company ING in 2000 and has held increasing positions of responsibility in the United States, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. Prior to his current role, Brannigan co-led Voya’s HR team. Previously, he was senior vice president, HR — Workplace, Corporate Functions and Talent & Leadership Development, during which time he was key to the creation and adoption of Voya’s purpose and vision.
Thompson has provided HR support for each of Voya’s businesses and corporate functions. He has also led work and teams across various Voya HR functions ranging from talent and leadership development to performance and rewards management. Prior to joining ING, Thompson was an executive compensation consultant for Towers Perrin, which is now Willis Towers Watson and branded as WTW.
Thompson also is the executive sponsor of the company's Mentoring Advantage Program and Black/African American Council, serves on the Community Investment Review Committee, and is heavily involved in the company’s social impact and inclusion work.
He also is an initiating member of the advisory council for Ethisphere’s Equity and Social Justice Initiative. The advisory council comprises business leaders who are committed to broader approaches for addressing social justice. Through the initiative, Ethisphere broadly shares resources, case studies, conversations and shared experiences from global companies and leaders committed to driving progress.
Thompson also is heavily involved in the community and currently serves on a number of nonprofit and industry boards, including UNICEF USA (National Board), Junior Achievement of Georgia and 100 Black Men of Atlanta. He has also served as Gala chair for several events, including the UNCF Mayor’s Mask Ball, UNICEF Southeast Gala and National Black Arts Festival Fine Art+Fashion.
He has been recognized for his contributions in the corporate world and the community with a number of awards, including being named one of the 100 Most Influential Blacks in Corporate America and Atlanta’s Top Man of Influence by Atlanta Tribune magazine. He also is a member of the Executive Leadership Council, The Partnership and Leadership Atlanta.
Thompson earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration/finance, with a minor in economics, from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
