The National Network of State Teachers of the Year (NNSTOY) is a network of State Teachers of the Year and finalists who use their teacher leadership to ensure that every student receives an outstanding education. Voya is the title sponsor of the National Teacher Leadership Conference hosted by NNSTOY, bringing together educators from across the nation to solve critical problems of practice, build professional networks and inspire one another.

Voya Foundation’s National STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Fellowship in partnership with the NNSTOY released their STEM Career Engagement Guides to help educators develop a deeper understanding of the need for STEM education for elementary, middle and high school students.

The Teacher Quality and Retention Program (TQRP) is a research-based five-year fellowship that trains and supports aspiring teachers from their junior year in college through the third year teaching. With over 50 percent of African-American teachers graduating from historically black colleges and universities, Thurgood Marshall College Fund is in a unique position to impact education — and TQRP leads to 97 percent of TQRP Fellows better prepared than their non-TQRP peers, and 87 percent remaining in the classroom as teachers.

Voya’s funding supports TQRP participants at historically black colleges and universities in the Atlanta and New York City areas with a focus on STEM education; however, opportunities are available to students of any major at most Thurgood Marshall-affiliated institutions. Voya Foundation is proud to support the Georgia Institute of Technology’s Georgia Intern Fellowship for Teachers (GIFT) program to support early-career science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) teachers in the state. GIFT provides teachers with hands-on summer internship experiences in university laboratories and businesses to deepen their knowledge of how classroom subjects intersect with real-world careers. Teachers spend four to seven weeks in research labs or nonprofits designing and conducting experiments, or in businesses applying science and math concepts to resolving workplace problems. Following the conclusion of their internship, GIFT continues to work with teachers to design in-class projects for their students that use the new knowledge and skills gained over the summer in experiential lesson plans.
